Profile & Story

Fratelli Alessandria has farmed vines in Verduno, on the northern edge of the Barolo zone, since 1830, and is now run by the fifth generation of the Alessandria family. Speziale comes from six specific vineyard parcels, Riva Rocca, Campasso, Boscatto, Neirane, Sotto Orti, and Galleria, at 250-350 meters, planted to Pelaverga Piccolo, a rare native grape grown almost exclusively in Verduno. The wine ferments in stainless steel with 6-8 days on the skins, then ages between steel and cement for six months.

Tasting Notes

Ruby red with subtle purple highlights, showing an intense, spicy nose of pink pepper alongside small red fruits; the palate is lively, fresh, and softly tannic, carrying the pronounced pepper spice that gives the wine its name, Speziale.
