Il Censo takes its name from the historic obligation of tenant farmers to pay tribute to the landowning family under a system dating to feudal times, a name that predates the estate's current ownership in Bivona, in the hills of south-central Sicily. Gurte is made from Insolia, one of Sicily's principal native white grapes, vinified with skin contact in the orange-wine style, from fruit grown in the Terre Siciliane.
Tasting Notes
Skin-contact Insolia from Sicily typically shows a deeper gold-to-amber hue, with aromas of dried orange peel, chamomile, and bruised apple, a textured, tannic grip on the palate, and a savory, lingering finish.
