Profile & Story
Bodegas La Cigarrera was founded in 1758 in Sanlucar de Barrameda, beginning as an almacenista operation before the Hidalgo family established the bodega housing its solera in a former convent in 1891. The estate has remained a small, family-run house through generations of cellar masters, and was among the earliest almacenistas permitted to bottle Manzanilla under its own label once the law allowed it in 1997. This Manzanilla is a Manzanilla Fina made from 100% Palomino grapes, aged for four to five years under a veil of flor in a solera of eight scales, grown and matured within a few hundred meters of the Atlantic and the mouth of the Guadalquivir River.
Tasting Notes
Manzanilla from Sanlucar de Barrameda is pale straw in color with a fine, almost saline nose shaped by biological aging under flor, typically showing chamomile, bread dough, and a briny, sea-air freshness. On the palate it is bone dry, light-bodied, and tangy, with a crisp, lingering finish.
Pairing Recommendation
Traditionally served well chilled as an aperitif, and a classic match for fried fish, shellfish, olives, and jamon.
