Profile & Story
Del Maguey was founded in 1995 by visual artist Ron Cooper, who first traveled through Oaxaca in 1970 and, in 1985, encountered traditionally made mezcal that, in the brand's words, "blew his mind," leading him to return and build relationships with the Zapotec and Mixtec farmer-families who craft it, bringing artisanal single-village mezcal to the world for the first time. Vida Clásico is hand-crafted in the village of San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca, alongside the Red Ant River, by palenquero Paciano Cruz Nolasco, naturally fermented and twice distilled in wood-fired copper stills from Espadín agave at 42% ABV; the brand positions it as an approachable entry point designed for those beginning their mezcal journey.
Tasting Notes
As an Espadín-based mezcal made in traditional wood-fired copper stills, Vida Clásico is typically smoky and earthy on the nose, with a smooth, naturally sweet agave character on the palate and a warm, gently smoky finish.
