Profile & Story

Don Julio was founded in 1942 by Don Julio González, who built the La Primavera distillery in the Jaliscan Highlands and dedicated forty years to perfecting his craft, choosing the region's volcanic soil and demanding climate because he believed it produced exceptional tequila. Don Julio Añejo is aged for eighteen months or more in ex-bourbon American white oak casks, which the brand calls a testament to the craft of making a superior, aged tequila, striking a balance between agave, wood, and hints of vanilla.

Tasting Notes

The nose brings a fresh blend of lime, grapefruit, and mandarin citrus aromas with a rich touch of caramel. The palate is full-bodied and complex, showing cooked agave, wild honey, and oak-infused butterscotch, finishing bright and lightly spiced with an essence of wild honey.

Pairing Recommendation

The producer recommends it in elevated cocktails such as Old Fashioneds, Negronis, and Manhattans, or sipped neat in a snifter or over ice.
