Don Julio was founded in 1942 by Don Julio González, who built the La Primavera distillery in the Jaliscan Highlands at 6,500 feet and spent decades hand-cultivating agave, treating the plants, in the brand's words, "as his children." Don Julio Blanco is described as the foundation from which all of the brand's other expressions are derived, made from 100% Blue Weber agave, double distilled in pot stills, and left unaged, using only water, a proprietary yeast strain, and agave to capture the pure character of the plant.
