Lagavulin distillery has stood on the shores of Lagavulin Bay on the island of Islay since 1816 and is regarded as one of the world's most celebrated malt producers, often called "the king of Islay." The 16 Year Old, matured in oak for at least sixteen years, is the distillery's benchmark expression, balancing massive peat-smoke flavor with surprising richness and dryness.
Tasting Notes
The nose carries intense peat smoke alongside briny notes and a deep underlying sweetness. On the palate, dry peat smoke gives way to gentle sweetness, sea salt, and subtle wood influence, leading into a long, elegant finish of peat, salt, and seaweed.
