Montepulciano is a robust, deeply colored red grape most closely associated with Abruzzo in central Italy, where it produces the region's flagship red wine, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (the grape and the Tuscan hill town of the same name are unrelated — that town's wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, is made from Sangiovese). Abruzzo's Adriatic-facing hillsides and warm, sunny climate give the grape ample ripeness while cooler nights help preserve freshness. This glass is a straightforward, food-friendly expression of the variety: dark-fruited, soft-edged, and easy to enjoy on its own or at the table.

Tasting Notes
