Profile & Story
Schramsberg Vineyards, founded in 1965 in Calistoga, produced America's first commercially made Chardonnay-based brut sparkling wine with its original Blanc de Blancs — the same wine President Nixon served at the historic 1972 Toast to Peace in Beijing. The 2022 Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay sourced across the North Coast (65% Sonoma, 32% Napa, 2% Mendocino, 1% Marin); small lots are barrel-fermented (22%) and blended with stainless-steel-fermented wine, then aged on its lees for about two years prior to disgorgement.
Tasting Notes
Lifted aromas of green apple, apple tart and apple custard intermingled with tangerine and lemon-lime; vibrant flavors of fresh grapefruit, golden apple and white peach drive the mid-palate, leading to a clean finish of vanilla chiffon and a hint of ginger.
Pairing Recommendation
Perfect with fresh oysters and other shellfish, crab cakes, ceviche and grilled sea bass; also delicious with lemon chicken and Thai curries, or served with aged Gouda and other hard cheeses.
