Profile & Story
Daniel Vollenweider, a Swiss-born surveyor, caught the wine bug from a bottle of Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Auslese and moved to the Mosel to found his own estate with the 2000 vintage, focusing on the steep Wolfer Goldgrube vineyard — a largely ungrafted, south-west-facing site on grey slate with sections of red slate. The Goldgrube Spätlese is harvested from very old vines in the Portz sector and fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar.
Tasting Notes
A restrained yet refined and elegant nose of yellow peach, smoke, almond, may tree, lime tree, candied grapefruit and anise; delicate, juicy and smooth on the palate with fine creamy elements, finishing velvety, pure and fresh.
