Alberto Burzi founded his eponymous winery in La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe, at age 26; his sister Caterina joined the estate in 2018 to lead international business and production. Neither sibling's parents worked in wine, but both grew up immersed in viticulture through their maternal grandparents, Luigi Roggero and Maddalena Oberto, who farmed old vines in the area — including what is now the historic Capalot cru — and helped found the Terre del Barolo cooperative. Alberto trained at the Scuola Enologica di Alba and earned a degree in Viticulture and Oenology before gaining international winemaking experience and returning home to realize what the family describes as his grandparents' dream of a family winery. The Langhe Nebbiolo Runcaja is made from 100% Nebbiolo Lampia grown on young vines, under 15 years of age, in La Morra. The wine ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with about 10 days of skin contact, then spends a couple of months in oak followed by a minimum of three months in concrete before bottling.
