Profile & Story

Casa D'Ambra was founded in 1888 by Francesco d'Ambra, a Calabrian who settled on the volcanic island of Ischia in the Bay of Naples; his son Mario later established the estate as the leading authority on Ischian viticulture. Ischia Bianco DOC is made from a 50/50 blend of Biancolella and Forastera, the island's two signature white grapes, farmed across roughly 5 hectares around Forio and Serrara Fontana at elevations between 100 and 500 meters, on medium-textured, mineral-rich volcanic soil. The wine is made with classic white vinification -- cold settling of the must followed by temperature-controlled fermentation -- and rests briefly in bottle before release. It reaches 11.5% ABV.

Tasting Notes

Straw yellow in color, with a nose that is vinous, intense and delicate. The palate is dry and fairly full-bodied.

Pairing Recommendation

Crustaceans, live seafood, boiled sea cicadas, shrimp pilaf.
