Profile & Story
Lamoresca is a small family estate of about 25 hectares farmed by Filippo Rizzo, who returned to Sicily after years in Belgium championing natural wine, along with his wife Nancy and son Simon. The vineyards sit near San Michele di Ganzaria, at the border of the Catania and Enna provinces, at roughly 450 meters of elevation on sandstone soils mixed with calcium- and iron-rich clay, farmed organically. Nerocapitano - the local dialect name for the Frappato grape - is 100% Frappato, hand-harvested in the first week of October. The fruit macerates on its skins for 14 days in vertical vats, punched down by hand twice a day with no temperature control and no added yeast, then pressed in an old-fashioned manual basket press. The wine ages through the winter in concrete with at least three rackings before bottling with minimal sulfur, unfiltered and unfined.
Tasting Notes
Fresh strawberry and herbs lead the glass, with sweet herbal, vegetable-garden scents underneath - a lighter, more restrained expression of Frappato best enjoyed young.
Pairing Recommendation
Best served lightly chilled, alongside casual fare like pizza.
