Azienda Agricola Verbena is a family winery in Montalcino (Loc. Verbena), founded in 1985 by Assunta Pascucci and Clara Brigidi on just two hectares. Luca Nannetti took over the estate in 1999 and grew production from an original 5,000 bottles each of Brunello and Rosso to roughly 30,000 bottles a year today, while the family has worked to keep a balance between innovation and tradition. The first Brunello and Rosso vintages were released in 1987. The Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso grown on about six hectares of estate vineyard planted at a density of roughly 4,500 vines per hectare with selected clones. Vinification includes malolactic fermentation in barriques, followed by two years of aging in large 40-hectoliter oak casks and further refinement in bottle before release.
Tasting Notes
Ruby-garnet in color, with notable aromas of ripe fruit and spice that develop with time in the glass. The palate carries the unique, characteristic expression of Sangiovese grown in Montalcino, built on structure and length meant to reward patience — best opened a few hours before serving.
