L'Archiviste is the work of Muse Vintage Wines, which acquired Martine's Wines - the négociant house founded by Martine Saunier - in 2012. This Maury was created to mark the tenth anniversary of that acquisition, blending two significant vintages: a portion from 1979, aged three years in underground concrete tanks and then 37 years in foudre, and a portion from 2012, aged roughly ten years, bottled straight from cask. The blend is 50% Grenache Noir, 30% Grenache Blanc, 15% Grenache Rosé and 5% Macabeu, farmed sustainably on schist soils in the Maury appellation of the Roussillon. As the house describes it, the 1979 portion "brings complexity and depth, showing its roots in history," while the 2012 "contributes freshness, fruit and vibrancy, representing new ideas and forward momentum."
