Profile & Story

Made behind the walls of the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Tvrdos near Trebinje, in southern Herzegovina, where vines have been tended since the 15th century. This is 100% Vranac, the native 'black stallion' of the region, grown by the monks on rocky limestone soils along the Trebisnjica River, where hot Mediterranean days are cooled by nights rolling down from the Dinaric Alps.

Tasting Notes

Deep, opaque ruby. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, dried fig and plum with baking spice, cocoa, tobacco leaf and wild Mediterranean herbs. Full-bodied and structured, with ripe, firm tannins, fresh acidity, dark fruit and spice, and a long, dry, savory finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Best served around 54 to 58 degrees Fahrenheit, with grilled meats, slow-braised lamb, mushrooms and hard cheeses; a classic match is cevapi.
