The Catena family has been growing grapes in Mendoza for more than a century and is widely credited with pioneering high-altitude viticulture and leading Argentina's Malbec revolution. In the 1950s, Domingo Catena began sourcing Malbec from vineyards in La Consulta, in the Uco Valley, prizing the fruit for its deep color and velvety tannins. This wine is 100% Malbec from La Consulta at roughly 1,095 meters elevation, grown on alluvial soil that is about 80% sand, 10% clay and 10% silt. It undergoes a cold soak of two to five days, an 8-14 day fermentation and 3-10 days of total maceration, then ages 11-13 months in French oak, 15-35% of it new, finishing at 13.3% alcohol.
