D'Oliveira (Pereira D'Oliveira) is an independent, family-owned Madeira producer tracing its roots to the 1850s, still run by descendants of founder Joao Pereira d'Oliveira. The house holds one of the island's largest libraries of old cask-aged Madeiras and believes Madeira ages best in wood, bottling only what is needed, to order, with the bottling date noted on the back label. Sercial, planted on the island's highest vineyards, produces the driest style of Madeira; this 1969 has been aged for decades in cask in the D'Oliveira lodge in Funchal.
