Red Tail Ridge Winery sits on the western shore of Seneca Lake in New York's Finger Lakes and is owned and run by husband-and-wife team Michael Schnelle and Nancy Irelan; it was the first LEED Gold-certified winery in New York. Alongside their Riesling-focused production, the estate farms small experimental plots of Blaufrankisch and other varieties. This wine is their "Sans Oak" Blau Franc Blend, a roughly equal-parts blend of Blaufrankisch and Cabernet Franc that is fermented and aged on light lees entirely in stainless steel, with no oak influence, to preserve fresh varietal character.
