Profile & Story

Valle Reale is an organic-biodynamic mountain estate near Popoli in Abruzzo, founded in 1998 by the Pizzolo family, farming vines on 46 hectares between Pescara and L'Aquila. This Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC is produced from certified organic grapes grown in the Popoli and Capestrano vineyards (calcareous, clay and pebbly soils, 990-1,485 feet elevation, southeastern exposure, planted 2002). Although DOC rules permit yields as high as 5.6 tons/acre, Valle Reale limits its Trebbiano to 4.4 tons/acre for greater concentration. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel (30 days at 61-64°F), followed by 2 months of aging in stainless steel before bottling. Alcohol 13%, pH 3.31, total acidity 4.68 g/L, dry extract 19 g/L, residual sugar 0 g/L.

Tasting Notes

Concentrated and elegant, combining bright fruit with delicate aromas of white flowers and flint (an aroma encouraged by the old-fashioned pied-de-cuve technique). Vibrant notes of crisp green apple, fresh melon and zesty lemon-lime accent a medium-bodied, refreshing palate with a savory, complex finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Pair with grilled vegetables and rustic pasta courses like Spaghetti alla Carbonara, as well as roasted poultry, sharp cheeses and cured meats.
