Founded in 1879 by pharmacist-turned-winemaker Don Antonio Guerra, Vinos Guerra is the oldest winery in Bierzo and among the most historic in Spain — an early Spanish producer of méthode champenoise sparkling wine. Today the estate farms roughly a third of all Bierzo vineyard land (1,000 of the region's 3,000 hectares), though only its best 10% of grapes go into wine.
