Profile & Story
Klaus Lentsch farms in Alto Adige, and for this Pinot Noir Riserva the best and ripest grapes are selected. The fruit comes from sun-favoured, steep terraces on strong loam-and-gravel soils at 400 to 600 metres, which give the wine its distinctive intense aroma. After careful destemming and a period of cold maceration, fermentation runs about two weeks in open vats, the cap punched down as needed to extract colour and flavour from the skins. The young wine then matures in cask and barrique, where it also completes malolactic, is bottled after roughly 20 months in wood, and is released after several further months in bottle.
Tasting Notes
A light ruby-red colour with a garnet shimmer, and a varietally typical aroma with a lightly earthy character. Scents of red berries and cherries with spice notes. Soft and round on the palate, with a balanced, medium-bodied frame and a fresh finish carrying finely spiced tannin and present minerality. Well stored, it will drink at its best for ten to fifteen years.
Pairing Recommendation
Flavourful and demanding dishes: lamb, poultry, duck, game and cheese.
