Profile & Story

Paolo Conterno founded the Casa della Ginestra in 1886, dedicated to Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. Barolo Riva del Bric is made exclusively from Nebbiolo, the Lampia and Michet sub-varieties, trained by Guyot on a vertical trellis, on predominantly clay and limestone soils with ideal water retention. The freshly picked grapes are crushed and destemmed, then macerated for roughly 15 to 20 days in special vats that continuously release the noble components of the skins; once the optimal balance between extracted colour and tannin is reached the wine is drawn off and racked. Ageing is traditional, in oak botti and then a period in bottle. Alcohol runs 13.5-14%, total acidity 5.3-5.8 g/l as tartaric, net dry extract 27-30 g/l.

Tasting Notes

The typical garnet colour, with a bouquet rich in floral and fruity scents. The body is robust and elegant, with a pleasing softness on the finish, and notes of cherry and wild berries come through.

Pairing Recommendation

Red meats and game: beef sirloin, roast kid, and hard, aged cheeses.
