Profile & Story
Fontanafredda has been one of Barolo's most historically significant estates since 1858. Its Serralunga d'Alba bottling is 100% estate-grown Nebbiolo from the winery's roughly 250-acre property in the commune -- the single largest contiguous estate in the Langhe -- sourced from south/southwest-facing vineyards at 300-400m on limestone and grey marl soils. Aged about one year in Allier barrique, then two years in 2,000L oak casks, plus roughly 12 months in bottle; ABV 14%.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby-red with garnet reflections; aromas of withered rose, underbrush, spice and licorice. Silky yet taut on the palate, with small red fruit and mint notes, dry and tannic but with velvety texture and good balance.
