Profile & Story

Chéreau Carré farms Château de Chasseloir, a 15th-century estate in Saint-Fiacre-sur-Maine at the heart of the Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine appellation; the original château was damaged during the Vendée Wars and only its tower remains today. The Comte Leloup du Château de Chasseloir cuvée comes from five hectares of century-old vines on schist soil with southern exposure, and is made only in the best years. Grapes are hand-harvested in September to preserve their aromas through pressing, fermented under temperature control, then aged nine to ten months on the lees with stirring (bâtonnage) before a further two to three years of bottle aging prior to release.

Tasting Notes

Aged Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine "sur lie" cuvées like this one typically develop a richer, more textured character than younger Muscadet, with citrus, orchard fruit, and a saline, mineral finish.

Pairing Recommendation

Traditionally paired with oysters and seafood, though the producer notes it also surprises well with sauced fish, white meats, and cheeses. Serve at 12°C.
