Profile & Story

Bruno Lupin farms in Frangy, a village in the Alpine reaches of Savoie outside the region's main production area. Rather than following the local norm of light, Jacquère-based wines, Lupin specializes in Altesse (locally called Roussette), which thrives in Frangy's warmer microclimate. Cuvée du Pépé comes from a single parcel on the south-facing hillside of Les Aricoques, planted by Bruno's grandfather with individually-staked Altesse vines now more than 70 years old, farmed organically at 350-500 meters on clay-limestone soil. In the cellar, Lupin ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel, allows full malolactic conversion, and ages the wine 12 months on the lees in enameled steel tanks, avoiding acid correction or residual sugar in order to preserve the wine's aging potential.
