Profile & Story

The Ott family has farmed Austria's Wagram since 1889; Bernhard Ott, the fourth generation, has run the estate since 1993 and helped found the respekt-BIODYN biodynamic growers' group in 2007. ‘Am Berg’ ("from the mountain") has been produced since 1994 as the estate's entry-level, by-the-glass Gruner Veltliner. Fruit is hand-picked from loess-soil vineyards around Feuersbrunn, Gosing, and Fels am Wagram, then spontaneously fermented and aged mostly in stainless steel with some large Stockinger foudre.

Tasting Notes

Light and precise, with the loess-driven white-pepper spice typical of Wagram Gruner Veltliner alongside citrus and orchard-fruit freshness.

Pairing Recommendation

A classic match for schnitzel, roast chicken, or a charcuterie board; its peppery lift also works well with lighter Asian dishes.
