Maison Joseph Drouhin is a family-owned Burgundy house founded in 1880 by a 22-year-old Joseph Drouhin who moved from Chablis to Beaune to start a négociant business; today it is led by the fourth generation of the family, who farm their vineyards organically and biodynamically while pursuing what they describe as an elegant, terroir-true style. This Bourgogne is considered the archetype of Bourgogne Pinot Noir for the house, blended entirely from Pinot Noir grown on clay-and-limestone soils across a dozen carefully selected vineyard sites within the region's Burgundy appellations. In the cellar the grapes are fully destemmed, then macerated and fermented for one to two weeks with indigenous or cultured yeasts before vertical or pneumatic pressing, and the wine is aged ten to fourteen months in a mix of oak barrels, fifteen to twenty percent of them new.
