Profile & Story

Mastroberardino, founded in 1878 in Atripalda, is the historic reference producer of Irpinia and is widely credited with preserving Campania's native white varieties -- Greco, Fiano and Falanghina -- through the 20th century. 'Stilema' is Piero Mastroberardino's tribute to his father Antonio: a selection of Greco from vines at least twenty years old across the Montefusco, Tufo and Petruro Irpino estates, made only in strong vintages and intended to recall the great Greco di Tufo wines of the 1970s and '80s. About 7% of the blend ferments in used barriques; the wine then ages 18 months on its fermentation lees and a further 18 months minimum in bottle, with an aging potential of 20+ years.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of ripe fruit, lychee and grapefruit alongside yellow flowers, dried fruit, figs and aromatic herbs, with wet stone, oyster-shell and pronounced smoky, saline, limestone notes. Decisive yet agile on the palate, with a pronounced saline edge and surprising freshness that gives the wine both drinkability and finesse; the finish is subtle and long.

Pairing Recommendation

Seafood soups, legume-based dishes, crustaceans, white meats, fresh cheeses, seafood risotto and fried fish. Best served at 14-15C.
