The Coutier family has farmed in the Grand Cru village of Ambonnay on the Montagne de Reims since 1619, with fifth-generation vigneron Antoine Coutier now at the helm of the nine-hectare, fully organic-certified estate. In 1948 Antoine's grandfather took the unusual step of planting Chardonnay in a village famous for Pinot Noir, and Coutier is now considered a leading Chardonnay grower in Ambonnay. The non-vintage Tradition Brut blends 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, all from Grand Cru fruit, and is regarded as one of the best values coming out of the region.
