Tenuta dell'Ugolino is a small, organic family winery in Castelplanio, in the heart of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi zone near Ancona, farming a single four-hectare vineyard in the Esino river valley. 'Le Piaole,' first bottled in 1993, is the estate's flagship Verdicchio Classico, grown on pebbly, fossil-rich soils within reach of the Adriatic. ABV 13%.
Tasting Notes
Light golden yellow with pale green reflections. The nose shows white flowers, sage and anisette, with peach and apricot in warmer vintages. Fresh and full-bodied on the palate, with mineral undertones recalling the vineyard's proximity to the Adriatic Sea.
Pairing Recommendation
Adriatic-style fried seafood (frittura di mare), fresh shellfish, light cheeses and delicate first courses. Best served at 12-14C.
