Profile & Story

Botter S.p.A. was founded in 1928 by Carlo Botter in Fossalta di Piave, Veneto, and is now run by the third generation of the Botter family -- today one of Italy's largest privately-held wine producers, exporting to more than 70 countries. Gran Passione Rosso is crafted using the appassimento method borrowed from Amarone production: the grapes -- 60% Merlot and 40% Corvina -- are partially dried before pressing to concentrate sugar and flavor, then aged into a full-bodied, structured red with soft tannins.

Tasting Notes

Dark ruby toward garnet with a lush, silky texture; the appassimento process concentrates ripe cherry, raspberry and dried-plum fruit, with soft tannins and a note of rhubarb on the finish.
