Weingut Battenfeld-Spanier, based in Hohen-Sülzen in Rheinhessen's Wonnegau district, was built by Hans Oliver Battenfeld-Spanier, who switched the estate to organic farming in 1993, making him one of the region's pioneers of organic viticulture. A member of the VDP, the estate farms chalky soils around its home village. This bottling is the VDP.Erste Lage (premier-cru-equivalent) Riesling from the Hohen-Sülzen site, dry-fermented with spontaneous, native-yeast fermentation.
