Profile & Story
Mildiani is a Georgian family winery based in Tsinandali, in the Kakheti region. In 2010 the family built a traditional qvevri cellar that continues to produce amber and red wines using ancient Kakhetian methods; Mildiani's 2002 Saperavi was the first Georgian wine of the modern era to win a medal (silver) at the Vinalies Internationales competition in Paris, in 2004. This Saperavi is fermented in buried qvevri using the same traditional technique.
Tasting Notes
Qvevri-fermented Saperavi typically shows a deep, almost opaque ruby-black color, with dark fruit, dried fruit, and warm spice notes over a rich, balanced palate and a long, velvety finish — Saperavi's naturally high acidity and tannin give it real structure even after extended skin contact.
