Profile & Story

Osmote is the Finger Lakes project of winemaker Ben Riccardi, a Cornell-trained oenologist who has worked at Williams Selyem, Craggy Range and City Winery New York. Ben and his family farm a 31-acre regenerative property in Burdett, NY on Seneca Lake's eastern shore, and moved winemaking into their own converted-garage facility in Ovid, NY in 2020. The Seneca Lake Chardonnay comes from the steep, east-facing Sawmill Creek Vineyard (490-820ft elevation, vines planted in the 1980s on gravelly loam), native-yeast fermented in 400L barrels with some lees stirring and aged on lees roughly 7 months in second-fill oak puncheons.

Tasting Notes

Honeydew melon, lemon peel and pear fruit accented by white flowers and crushed stones, with oak deftly integrated on a medium-bodied palate balancing bright citrus and melon with subtle spice.
