Profile & Story

Domaine de la Patience is a family estate at Bezouce, near Nimes and Avignon in southern France, established in 1930 and named after 'la patience', a wild aromatic Mediterranean herb found throughout the vineyards. Christophe Aguilar took over from his father in 1998 and converted the domaine to certified organic (AB / Ecocert) in 2007 - 'I realized I needed to stop poisoning myself with the chemical treatments we were using' - growing it from the original 15 hectares to 100 hectares of his own organic-certified vines across the neighboring Costieres de Nimes and Coteaux du Pont du Gard appellations, plus purchased grapes from neighboring HVE-sustainable or organic-practicing vineyards. Soils are pebbles and sandstone, and loess. Main varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Merlot, Cinsault; Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino. Winemaking uses indigenous and neutral yeast, vegan-friendly fining and light filtration; the rose is destemmed, direct-pressed, temperature-controlled fermented and raised in concrete tank. The estate's own IGP Coteaux du Pont du Gard Rose fact card gives the blend as Cinsault 60%, Syrah 30%, Grenache Noir 10% from 15-year-old vines. Alcohol 12%; drink within 3 years; serve at 8-10C.
