Sanchez Romate Hnos. was founded in Jerez de la Frontera in 1781 by Juan Sanchez de la Torre and remains one of the few Jerez houses still in local family hands; it was named Official Purveyor to the House of Lords in 1909 and to the Sacred Apostolic Palace of the Vatican in 1917, and ages its wines in American oak under the criaderas y soleras system. Every Romate wine comes from the house's own albariza holdings except the Moscatel, which is sourced from the coastal town of Chipiona, west of Jerez, from late-harvested, sun-dried Moscatel de Chipiona (the 'Moscatel de pasas' type). Ambrosia is a natural sweet wine made from Moscatel grapes, part of the Special Reserves range, with an average age of about 20 years drawn from a slowly worked solera. 18% vol.
