Profile & Story

Mongarda is a family winery in Col San Martino, in the heart of the Valdobbiadene-Conegliano Prosecco Superiore zone in the Veneto. The estate follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, choosing each vineyard site to let its own character speak: as the winery puts it, "the more one intervenes, the more personality is flattened; the less one intervenes, the more the territory can talk about itself, and that is unique." The cellar occupies a converted historic house at the center of town, fitted with concrete and steel tanks behind thick old walls. This Extra Dry comes from the estate's Rive Alte vineyard, a single east-facing site planted to Glera alongside old indigenous varieties, on a thin layer of clay over calcareous conglomerate rock with strips of marl and siltstone. The grapes are hand-harvested into small boxes; the must undergoes soft pressing with quality separation and about 24 hours of static decantation before fermenting in steel tanks with a pied de cuvée made from the estate's own grapes, and maturing on the lees (batonnage) in steel and cement. The wine then undergoes its second fermentation by the Martinotti (Charmat) method in autoclave for about 40 days using selected yeasts.

Tasting Notes

The producer describes the wine as carrying "the character of the Valdobbiadene hills, with a graceful dress" — a Prosecco Superiore of craft origins that shows real refinement. In the Extra Dry style, it carries 11.0 g/L residual sugar balanced by 6.4 g/L acidity, with a gentle sparkle of 4.8 atm of pressure.
