Profile & Story

Benevolent Neglect was founded in 2013 by Matt Nagy and Ben Brenner, working alongside Matt Matthiasson of California's low-intervention "New California" winemaking movement. Their GSM is a Southern Rhône-inspired cuvée of Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Syrah sourced from North Coast and Sonoma vineyards; the 50% Mourvèdre share gives it more in common with Château de Beaucastel than a classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of plum and black cherry lead, accented by black pepper, dried herbs, tobacco, violet, and lilac. The palate is lush and impactful, with juicy red and black fruit, excellent acidity, and gentle tannins carrying through a long finish.
