Profile & Story

Clos Fornelli is a family-owned winery established in 2005 in Tallone, on Corsica's eastern coast above Aleria, bordering the Tyrrhenian Sea, by Josée Vanucci and Fabrice Couloumère (business and agronomy backgrounds respectively). The estate spans 45 hectares, 18 of them planted to vines on clay and alluvial soils from the Bravone river below the Castagniccia mountains, farmed organically and dry-farmed (deliberately unirrigated) with old vines capped at 45 hL/ha. 'La Robe d'Ange' rouge, first vinified in 2005, is thought to be Upper Corsica's first 100% Sciaccarellu red cuvée — an unconventional choice in a region that historically favored fuller-bodied reds. Made with selected indigenous yeasts, no sulphiting at the start of harvest, fermented in concrete vats with three weeks' maceration and aged 6-10 months, from the è Quercete plot.

Tasting Notes

Beautiful light ruby Sciaccarellu colour (delicate Burgundy appearance); an intense aromatic nose of spice, pepper, rose and red fruit. Juicy, pleasant, fresh and racy on the palate, elegant, finishing on notes of maquis and spices.

Pairing Recommendation

Grilled fish or meat, tajine, sushi.
