Domaine Comte Abbatucci farms roughly 21 hectares of granite-arena slopes in Corsica's Taravo Valley (Ajaccio appellation, Corse-du-Sud). Jean-Charles Abbatucci, a descendant of the Napoleonic-era general Jacques-Pierre Abbatucci, is a leading figure in Corsican biodynamic viticulture (certified biodynamic) and has spent decades rescuing the island's indigenous grape varieties from near-extinction, continuing an ampelographic collection begun by his father Antoine. Faustine, named for his daughter, is the domaine's flagship, everyday range. The Blanc is 100% Vermentinu (Vermentino) old vines grown on granite arena soils; grapes from very low-yielding parcels are hand-harvested in the morning at prime maturity and pressed immediately, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel after a brief cold soak, followed by six months' ageing on the lees in stainless steel tanks.
