Ministre Imperial belongs to Domaine Comte Abbatucci's 'Collections' range - cuvees named for historical figures from the Abbatucci family, which descends directly from the Napoleonic-era general Jacques-Pierre Abbatucci. Wines in this range come from a single parcel first planted by Jean-Charles's father, Antoine Abbatucci, in the early 1960s to preserve nearly-extinct indigenous Corsican varieties, and now form part of the ampelographic collection Jean-Charles has studied and expanded. Ministre Imperial is a complex blend of seven native Corsican grapes - Sciaccarello, Nielluccio, Carcajolo Nero, Montanaccia, Morescono, Morescola, and Aleatico - grown on granite-arena soils in the Taravo Valley (Ajaccio, Corse-du-Sud) under certified-biodynamic farming. It is raised in 600-litre half-barrels (foudres) for 12 months, then a further 6 months in stainless steel before bottling. Alcohol approximately 14.5%.
