Domaine Comte Abbatucci farms roughly 21 hectares of granite-arena slopes in the Taravo Valley of Corse-du-Sud (Ajaccio appellation), certified biodynamic. This wine is produced from a single grape variety taken from the nursery planted by Jean-Charles's father in the 1960s to save indigenous Corsican varieties from extinction; once its potential was proven in small trials, several acres of older rootstock were grafted over to Carcajolu-Neru, which today stands - alongside Nielluccio of Patrimonio to the north - as one of Corsica's noblest red grapes. The 2015 Valle di Nero is a rare, single-varietal bottling: 100% Carcajolu-Neru from vines averaging 6 years old on granite soil, aged in one-third older 600-litre demi-muids and two-thirds stainless-steel tank for 8-10 months. Alcohol 13.5%. Bottled as Vin de France, not under the Patrimonio appellation.
