Domaine de Vaccelli, run by third-generation winemaker Gerard Courreges on granite hillsides in the Taravo valley (Cognocoli-Monticchi, Ajaccio), has farmed organically since 2008. The Quartz cuvee is a blend of old, native Corsican grape varieties -- per the estate's US importer, 51% Carcaghjolu Neru, 42% Minustellu and 7% Sciaccarellu (bottled under the broader Ile de Beaute indication) -- hand-harvested from vines ten to sixty years old on granite soil and aged in tank. The wine combines the power of Minustellu, the structure of Carcajolo and the fruit intensity of Sciaccarellu.
