Profile & Story

Domaine Marengo was founded in 2007 by Marina and Benoit Bronzini de Caraffa in Barbaggio, in the heart of the Patrimonio appellation. It is a deliberately tiny operation - Marina runs the vineyard full-time while Benoit practices law in Bastia, and the couple handle all production and sales personally. N Degree655 (the plot number of the parcel it comes from) is a single-vineyard bottling of 100% Muscat a Petits Grains, part of a range that also includes the Appolonia and Emiliu cuvees; the wines are aged a minimum of 24 months before release. This AOP Muscat du Cap Corse is a vin doux naturel bottled at 15.3% ABV in 50cl format.

Tasting Notes

Eye: pale gold robe, pure and brilliant, with shimmering silver glints. Nose: gourmand and pastry-like - honey, candied citron, vanilla, nougat, white blossom (mock orange), candied bitter-orange zest and green almond. Palate: a velvety, lively, fresh attack with tangy citrus notes; a fine mineral and herbal tension builds mid-palate as a verbena/chamomile infusion unfolds a heady warmth. The long finish runs on sap and almond milk, closing gently on a note of salt-flower and honey. (Domaine Marengo, official tasting note for the current release)

Pairing Recommendation

Producer's suggested pairings: Vietnamese-style confit pork with lemongrass; shrimp sauteed with chili and Thai chives; soft or washed/marbled-rind cheeses; strawberry and yuzu-lemon tart, or an all-lemon baba.
