Profile & Story
Clos Fornelli is a 45-hectare family property, 18 hectares of it under vine, on the eastern edge of Corsica above the coastal town of Aleria on the Tyrrhenian Sea, farmed organically by Josee Vanucci. Cool nights drawn off the Castagniccia mountains shorten sun exposure and preserve freshness and aromatics. 'La Robe d'Ange' rouge is 100% sciaccarellu from the 'e Quercete' plot, grown unirrigated as a dry crop out of respect for the terroir. First made in 2005, it is probably the first 100% sciaccarellu red produced in Haute-Corse. Vinified in concrete vats with selected indigenous yeasts and no sulphiting at the start of harvest, with three weeks of maceration and 6 to 10 months of ageing.
Tasting Notes
Producer note: a light ruby sciaccarellu colour, with an intense aromatic nose of spice, pepper, rose and red fruit. Elegant and sunny on the palate with good tension - fresh and racy, over a background of maquis and spices.
Pairing Recommendation
The producer suggests grilled fish or meat, tajine or sushi, adjusting the serving temperature (served at 15-18 C).
