Parcelle Wine call Raul Perez the winemaker most responsible for Spain's 21st-century quality revolution: a consultant and grower who has left his mark on projects across the country while remaining based in Bierzo, inland from the Atlantic in the northwest. 'Ultreia' is his own label. The Godello is 100% godello from about 9 hectares of red clay and alluvial stones in Valtuille and Cacabelos planted in the 1980s, with a massale selection taken from a vineyard dating to 1906, farmed organically. The fruit is picked early for freshness, fermented spontaneously, and raised roughly a year in neutral 225-500 L French and Austrian barrels plus 2,500 L foudres.
