Profile & Story
Castell d'Age was founded in 1988 in Catalonia's Penedès region, where the estate says its wines and cavas reflect the tradition of its ancestors alongside the approach of the new generation, made with faithful adherence to the principles of respect for the land. The Anne Marie Brut Nature Reserva is an elegant, subtle cava blended from 40% Xarel·lo, 40% Macabeu, and 20% Parellada grown on slate and clay-limestone soils across the estate's Can Pujades, Can Gener, and Can Aguilera vineyards; it undergoes a first fermentation in stainless steel at low temperature, a second fermentation in bottle by the traditional méthode champenoise, and a minimum of 20 months' aging on lees in underground cellars held at a constant 16°C.
Tasting Notes
The cava shows a straw-yellow color with green tones, with fine, slow-moving bubbles forming strings of beads beneath a crown of mousse. The nose reveals delicate aging aromas with dairy notes of fresh butter set against a backdrop of ripe fruit, while the palate is pleasant and fresh on entry, opening up fully with well-integrated carbon dioxide as the light aging aromas merge with ripe fruit, toast, and dried fruit and nuts through to a full finish of good length and long-lasting flavor.
Pairing Recommendation
It is well suited to a wide range of dishes, from appetizers to desserts, and pairs particularly well with seafood, fish, and semi-matured cheeses; best served between 6 and 8°C.
