About the Wine

The blend includes 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Malbec. While the heatwave of 2022 had ended by mid-September, whatever damage it wrought had been wreaked and our crop of Cabernet Sauvignon had been naturally thinned and/or turned to raisins despite our best wishes otherwise. However, the fruit that made it through the heat and stress, made it like a sunglasses wearing raisin from a time long since past - enough water and nutrients were heard through the grapevine that we still had a crop! Between September 12 and 18 we harvested 9 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon from Snow Vineyard and from Ray Dodd's Klau Mine Vineyard. The Dodd fruit found its way to a stainless tank with temperature control - and there it would carefully ferment for close to three weeks. The Snow Vineyard Cabernet found its way to a collection of t-bins and puncheons where several different commercial yeasts were employed to bring out the best of all sides from the infantile Snow vineyard. The end results were aged separately through malolactic fermentation in roughly 80% new French Oak barrels. In August of 2023 our favorite barrels were picked, along with a splash of Old Schoolhouse Malbec to create this fruity, yet austere Cabernet Sauvignon. It would eventually get bottled in July of 2024 after close to 22 months in French Oak.

Tasting Notes

This deep purple wine is a captivating blend of fresh herbs and fragrant lavender meets ripe strawberry and the delicate aroma of fresh flowers and rose petals. Hints of tobacco and sandalwood add a layer of complexity. Elegantly structured, the palate reveals vibrant flavors of blueberry and red currant, complemented by the richness of caramel and elderberry. This wine is further enhanced by the warm spices of nutmeg, finishing with rich tannins and lingering notes of grilled peaches and toasted marshmallow.
