The Wente family farms roughly 400 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon using two clones descended from California pioneer Charles Wetmore's 19th-century Bordeaux cuttings. The Southern Hills designation refers to vineyards along the southern hills of California's Central Coast, whose well-drained rocky soils and distinctive microclimates yield Cabernet of character, depth and intensity. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with twice-daily pump-overs, then aged twelve months in a blend of French, American and neutral oak with some stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting Notes
Opens with vibrant blackberry, cassis and black cherry, complemented by subtle oak notes of cocoa and a touch of fresh-baked gingerbread. Well-balanced and polished, it is approachable now yet has the depth and structure to age gracefully over the next three to five years.
